2008 INVITATIONAL
DETAILS

Last Updated on May 12, 2008

IMPORTANT NEWS: The NAVHDA Executive Council voted unanimously to delay the implementation of the 100-dog rule for the Invitational Test. This means any dogs receiving a Prize I in Utility in 2007, will be able to participate in the 2008 Invitational. This additional time will enable the EC to study whether the organization can handle more than 100 dogs at the test and if so, how it can best do so.

Please note that the Republican National Convention will be held in Minneapolis from Sept 1 – 4 and that they expect 45,000 people to be arriving in the twin cities for the event. We have been finding in January 08 hotels that are completely blocked out for the Republican Convention as far out as Hudson WI, therefore, please book your hotel rooms as soon as possible.

Dates
The test will be held at Kelley Farms, 30 minutes outside of St. Paul Minnesota on Thursday, August 28 through Sunday, August 31, 2008. If inclement weather interferes with an assigned test day, a make-up day may be added on Monday September 1, 2008.

Test Sites

East Field

Spectator’s Viewing Area at the Water and Field Test Site
Gallery viewing for the water is excellent. Much of the fields will be within viewing distance of the gallery.

Exercise/Training Area and Birds
No participating dog is allowed to run on or train East of County Rd 15 or Manning Trail after May 1, 2008 through the completion of the test. Invitational entered handlers and their dogs may participate in other sanctioned testing events at Kelley Farms during that timeframe.

The Minnesota Chapter has made arrangements for the use of Good Going Kennels for training grounds the week of the Invitational. Good Going Kennels is located just north of Hammond, Wisc which is 33 miles (approximately 50 minutes) southeast of Kelley Farms. Hotels in New Richmond, Wisc are 10 miles from Good Going Kennels and would be a good choice to stay if you plan on using these grounds.

The grounds will be available from Wednesday August 20 through Saturday August 30. The grounds include field and water with multiple looks at a Blind retrieve. There is not an adequate water site available for a shackled duck search.

Those wishing to use these grounds must register in advance by completing the attached waiver form and returning it to Len Kindem.

You may bring your own birds or reserve chuckar in advanced for $8.50 each, US funds. Payment for chuckars must be received no later than July 15, 2008. The birds will be available at the training grounds.

The operator of the Grounds, Jason Gooding, will have available on site homer pigeons (non-kill) for $2.00 each and possibly Pheasants or other birds as well. Jason will collect the fees for these birds at the time of training. Please call Jason 24 hours before your arrival so that he may collect the birds you will need.

To reserve chuckars and/or register for use of the grounds, complete and mail the
Waiver Form and Chuckar Reservation Form
with check to:

Len Kindem
1315 County Road N
Roberts, Wisc 54023

Jason’s phone number and a map of the grounds will be sent upon receipt of your registration.

Daily Starting Time
Each day the first order of business will be opening ceremonies, which will begin promptly at 7:00 a.m. Handlers must be on the grounds by 6:30 a.m.

Running Time
Each handler and dog will rotate to the different testing sites throughout the day.

Test Workers
Whether you are handling a dog, or coming as a spectator, working at the Invitational is not only a fun and productive way to see great dog work, it is an outstanding way to learn more about this test. The Invitational is an International event, which means each of us plays a part in its success. At the least, if everyone who handles a dog, volunteers to work at least one day, there would be a sufficient number of workers. This test requires 40 workers per day. Workers need to be on the grounds by 6:30 every morning to meet with their site marshal.

Job Descriptions

Worker Schedule TBA

** ALL VOLUNTEERS MUST BE MEMBERS OF NAVHDA INTERNATIONAL **

To volunteer your services please use the Volunteer Form which will automatically be sent directly to Bryce via email.
Bryce Adams
bryce@exceleng.net
763-231-8523

The preferred point of contact is through the Volunteer Form and email so Bryce can efficiently track the volunteers. Please fill out the form completely providing your name, email address, phone numbers, days you can work, list at least two jobs you are willing to do and give a little background as to whether you have worked at a NAVHDA test, especially the Invitational, in the past and in what capacity. We’ll do our best to accommodate everyone. Please note that all gunners must be approved by the International committee.

NOTICE TO HANDLERS:
The following jobs require volunteers to actively participate in the running of test and could be interpreted as violating the standing rule that handlers can’t train or run on the grounds until they’ve completed testing. Therefore, handlers will not be allowed to hold the following jobs until they’ve completed testing:
• Bird Planter
• Gunner
• Bye Dog
• Test Dog at both water venues

Handlers may volunteer for all other positions.

For the same reasons, Invitational Judges who are handling dogs must run their dog before they judge any segment of the test.
